How to make the champions league exciting

Arsenal and Manchester United have qualified after 4 rounds.

Congratulations to them.

It does now mean a long wait before they are involved in a meaningful match.

Just imagine if they now had matches against Barcelona or Real Madrid in the final 2 games to determine who gets what seeding for the knockout stage.

How can that be achieved? How can a football qualifying competition be made that exciting?

The teams are in an all-play-all twice system, which was invented in the 19th century. What's wrong with with the 19th century?

It's boring , that's what is wrong. Let's have some excitement.

At the start of the Champion's League group stages , there is a draw which gets great coverage.

Why not have a draw every round for each of the 6 games in the qualifying competition?

How can we have a draw every round? And at the same time, ensure that every match is exciting for TV?

Run the qualifying competition as a 6 round Swiss competition, with the top 16 qualifying for the knockout phase.

The final places in the Swiss would determine the seeding for the knockout, guaranteeing that all matches will be exciting, even the last match for the top teams who have already qualified after 5 rounds.

Depending upon results, there could be 11 or so remaining qualifiying places at stake in the last round, with 20 or so teams going head to head in a battle for those places.

Guaranteed tension , drama, big crowds and vast publicity.

Will UEFA leave behind the 19th century all-play-all system and revolutionise world football?

Let's have some excitement in the Champions League.

I think you may have something there, it would definitely be better to seed the teams on current form rather than previous years, especially for clubs with a short Champions League history.
