    1943 War Cup (North Final) 2nd Leg. Sheffield Wednesday v Blackpool. Date Please ?

    Hello Andy,
    It is a long time since you posted your request for information but I hope that will find the following of interest.

    My father was at the cup final 1943,between Arsenal & Blackpool.He was in the Army at the time & wrote about it in a letter to my mother dated 16th May 1943:-
    "I had a good day yesterday.I went to Stamford Bridge (that is Chelsea football ground) to watch the cup final between Blackpool & Arsenal.It says in the paper there were 55000 there but I think they forgot to count another 20000.It was packed but I enjoyed it just the same.Blackpool won 4-2.
    Afterwards I went to the pictures because there were thousands waiting for the train.I saw two good pictures,Dr Sin & Abbott & Costello in Money for Jam.I got back here about 9 o'clock.A lot of people got their pockets slashed open and had their pockets picked but they know better than pick on soldiers as they have no money."

    Blackpool played Sheffield Wednesday in the 2 Leg Final of 1943
    at Bloomfield Road the game was played on the 1st of May the game ended 2-2 the given attendance was 28,000 the 2nd Leg at Hillsborough was played on the 8th May Blackpool winning 2-1 to win the Cup the attendance at Hillsborough was 47,657.
    a week later on the 15th May Blackpool beat Arsenal 4-2 at Stamford Bridge in what was played as a North v South Challange in front of 55,195.
    The following Season Blackpool were beaten in the Two Leg Final by Aston Villa. Blackpool winning the 1st Leg 2-1 at Bloomfield Road in front of 26,800 but loseing the 2nd Leg 4-2 at Villa Park in front of 54,824.
