Im looking for information on the War Cup Finals 1940-1945.
Im wanting to know Attendances for the Finals and Dates.
All information would be a great help.

Hello Andy,
It is a long time since you posted your request for information but I hope that will find the following of interest.

My father was at the cup final 1943,between Arsenal & Blackpool.He was in the Army at the time & wrote about it in a letter to my mother dated 16th May 1943:-
"I had a good day yesterday.I went to Stamford Bridge (that is Chelsea football ground) to watch the cup final between Blackpool & Arsenal.It says in the paper there were 55000 there but I think they forgot to count another 20000.It was packed but I enjoyed it just the same.Blackpool won 4-2.
Afterwards I went to the pictures because there were thousands waiting for the train.I saw two good pictures,Dr Sin & Abbott & Costello in Money for Jam.I got back here about 9 o'clock.A lot of people got their pockets slashed open and had their pockets picked but they know better than pick on soldiers as they have no money."

Blackpool played Sheffield Wednesday in the 2 Leg Final of 1943
at Bloomfield Road the game was played on the 1st of May the game ended 2-2 the given attendance was 28,000 the 2nd Leg at Hillsborough was played on the 8th May Blackpool winning 2-1 to win the Cup the attendance at Hillsborough was 47,657.
a week later on the 15th May Blackpool beat Arsenal 4-2 at Stamford Bridge in what was played as a North v South Challange in front of 55,195.
The following Season Blackpool were beaten in the Two Leg Final by Aston Villa. Blackpool winning the 1st Leg 2-1 at Bloomfield Road in front of 26,800 but loseing the 2nd Leg 4-2 at Villa Park in front of 54,824.

I'm writing about the 1943 Blackpool Arsenal match at Stamford Bridge and would like to mention the letter your father sent to to your mother about the game. I'd be interested too in your father's full name and whether he was a Londoner or whether he just happened to be in London at the time.

there was a war cup?

The War Cup was one of the competitions run during the Second World War to keep people entertained. It was hard to have full leagues etc due to bombing raids and the fact players had been called up to serve in the army.
