  1. Leicester City hoping to sign Martyn Waghorn as Sunderland consider a £2 million offer

The Blue Army - Leicester City FC - Tuesday 31st of August 8:30 am

Sunderland are considering a £2 million offer from Leicester City for striker Martyn Waghorn. City may also test Swansea City's resolve with a £2m bid for defender Ashley Williams today as the club looks set for a frantic finale to the summer transfer window. City manager Paulo Sousa is looking to bring in two strikers and a centre back before the window shuts at 6pm today. There could also be players heading out of the door, including DJ Campbell, who is close to completing a £1.5m move to Blackpool. City have made no secret of the fact that they want Waghorn back at the Walkers Stadium after his superb spell on loan last season. The 20-year-old scored 12 goals last season and was named young player of the year after a fantastic campaign under Nigel Pearson. City made an inquiry about Waghorn's availability at the end of the season and then tabled a £2m bid, which was rejected by Sunderland, who also rate the South Shields-born striker highly. City left the bid on the table should Steve Bruce change his mind and the Black Cats boss may now, reluctantly, be ready to sell. Bruce is chasing Rennes

The Flat Back Four - Tuesday 24th of August 4:31 pm

What an amazing start to the new Premier League 2010/2011 season! Defending champions, Chelsea kicked off their campaign with two successive 6-0 wins, prompting Carlo Ancelotti to declare that Chelsea are playing "Playstation football " at the moment. It's not the first time the Blues have thumped Wigan - last season they put eight past Roberto Martinez' Latics. While it's true that West Brom and Wigan are among the relegation strugglers in the Premiership, to score six goals in two matches and not conceding is a feat to be lauded in any league. Not to be outdone, Arsenal blasted six of their own against Blackpool last weekend. Theo Walcott's second and third goal were reminiscent of a former French Arsenal legend. Will this season be the one in which Theo finally fulfills Wenger's belief that he can be a devastating striker? And if three 6-0 matches were not freaky enough, newly promoted Newcastle decided to join the club with an emphatic six goal salvo against the Villans. Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan clearly enjoyed their return to Premiership football scoring three goals between the two
