The Cristiano Ronaldo saga rumbled on for over three months but it looks like it has been finally put to rest until at least the end of the season. But a saga that has lasted a lot longer than that is about to finally end but in a opposite manner, Dimitar Berbatov has been coveted by Manchester United for well over a year now and looks set to sign for them this coming week. Has the credit crunch finally hit football?

As every one in our country understands at the moment our economy is in a crisis, many business are under huge amounts of pressure to keep afloat and that includes our English football teams. Obviously teams in the lower leagues have had to battle this anyway but to can see this happening even to the top flight clubs in the Premier league. This year it is estimated that in the Premiership for the first time in 7 years there will not be a rise in transfer fees compared to the previous year. There has already been comments by leading figures in the game that the credit crunch is effecting there team, Chief Executive of Portsmouth Peter Storrie stated “The credit crunch is there and everybody has been affected by it. We don’t get away just because we are a football club”. (more…)

Cost to get to the top

The “Big Four” of the Premiership have been the powerhouses these past 5 years. Only one team, Everton, have broken that dominance three seasons ago. But how much do teams need to spend to break into this elite group. It is estimated that Tottenham have spent close to £95 million on players these past two seasons and are still looking to spend.
